Meet the Staff: Spotlight on Inventory Assistant Alexa G.

image1Alexa, an inventory assistant here at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry, has been working with our practice for three months and counting. As an inventory assistant, Alexa makes sure the office is always stocked with our fun-filled goodie bags for your kids to bring home following their appointments. She also helps our staff get the dental items that they need throughout the day.

“The thing I enjoy the most about coming to work is having interactions with my coworkers and getting to know the patients.” Alexa says. “What inspires me is how little kids come to Alameda Pediatric Dentistry with a smile and leave with a brighter smile after their appointment and their little faces light up when they get a goodie bag and stickers.”

Alexa was referred to us by East Bay Innovations, a nonprofit organization that supports adults with disabilities throughout Alameda County. “We are currently providing job coaching support to approximately 130 individuals throughout Alameda County,” says Saralynn Emery, assistant director of Supported Employment Services at East Bay Innovations. “It is my role to supervise and support coordinators and job coaches.”

Saralynn explains that after completing a task analysis at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry, which included reviewing responsibilities, work place environment, and hard and soft skills necessary for success, East Bay Innovations compared those requirements to the skills of their candidates. After they identified Alexa, they discussed the position with her and she expressed interest.

“Alexa graduated from our Project SEARCH office skills training program at the Alameda County Administrative Offices, so we were very familiar with her skills, strong work ethic, and strong customer service skills,” Saralynn says.

We then interviewed Alexa and were thrilled to offer her the position. We have valued her important contribution to the practice ever since. Our office is also happy to partner with a program that assists adults with developmental disabilities to live independently. As part of the East Bay Innovations program, Alexa started working at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry with the assistance of a job coach. She began with the coach 100 percent of the time at her side, and gradually decreased to a level of 20 percent or less as Alexa gained more familiarity with her position. Ongoing follow-ups with her coach will help ensure that Alexa can get seamless support when necessary.

“Everyone at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry is very sweet, welcoming. They are the best coworkers you could ask for. They are very patient with me when I get a new task. They also help me to complete the task and explain the task to me so for the future, if they give me the same task, I will know how to do it,” Alexa says.

Welcome to our family Alexa!
