Crooked baby teeth can cause many health complications for your child. These complications include things like increased risk for gum disease, tooth wear, increased risk of tooth injuries and bad breath. Not to mention chewing difficulties, difficulty cleaning the teeth properly and a decrease in self-esteem.
Once you’ve called us and scheduled a cleaning and a checkup for your child, we may visit with you about the options that you have available to you for straightening your child’s teeth. Let’s look at a few of those options here today.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?
Depending on the severity of the problems your child faces, there are a myriad of options available to help your child have the best smile in class! If your child’s mouth simply needs additional room to accommodate all of their teeth, something as simple as a retainer or a space maintainer may be used.
When you work with our orthodontists, we can help you find the best device for your child’s situation. More severe cases may require the use of braces to straighten teeth and keep them in place as the baby teeth fall out and the mature teeth grow in.
Orthodontic treatment is recommended for children as early as age 7 who are having complications as a result of crooked teeth. While the treatment time has decreased a little over the past few years, most of the treatments that we offer are very much the same as when you as a parent were a child. We specialize in children’s orthodontics and we look forward to working together with you to help lay the groundwork for a healthy life.
We all know that oral health care is an important part of raising a healthy child. If they are well cared for and looked after, with regular cleanings and checkups, your child will have a better chance of having teeth for life.
