Problems That May Arise During Treatment

We understand problems arise when you are undergoing orthodontic care, therefore you will find a comprehensive list of different emergencies and what you can do next.

If a tie wire is irritating your mouth: Cover it with dental wax or tuck it under the arch wire with a blunt object like a Q-tip or pencil eraser.

If a bracket becomes loose but still attached to the wire: Leave it in place and if uncomfortable, cover with dental wax. Please call the office to schedule your next appointment to get the bracket fixed, however, most loose brackets can wait until your next scheduled visit.

If you lose your colored or non-colored tie: Please call the office to schedule a visit to replace it.

If your headgear or appliance does not fit: Please call the office for an appointment.

If your mouth is sore from braces: Rinse your mouth with warm salt water. If necessary, you can take a pain reliever to help ease the discomfort.

If you have a broken arch wire or one that is irritating the gum or cheek tissue: Please call the office to schedule an appointment for a replacement or adjustment.

If the end of your arch wire becomes unattached from the end bracket: You can try to place the wire back into the bracket with tweezers.

If you have any other problems or you are unsure what to do next, please call our office.
