An oral biopsy is a diagnostic procedure performed to obtain a small sample of tissue from the mouth for laboratory analysis. It is typically recommended when unusual growths, lesions, or other abnormalities are detected in the oral cavity and further investigation is needed to determine their nature. This procedure is commonly performed by Dr. Reed Rayher, our oral surgeon!
Why Is an Oral Biopsy Done?
1. Diagnosing Lesions or Growths: To determine if a lesion is benign, precancerous, or cancerous.
2. Investigating Unexplained Symptoms: Persistent ulcers, patches (white, red, or mixed), or lumps that do not heal or resolve on their own.
3. Evaluating Systemic Conditions: To identify oral manifestations of conditions like autoimmune diseases or infections.
If a small, known benign lesion is detected, our pediatric dentists are also able to remove it with Solea Co2 laser. The use of the Solea Co2 laser allows for a precise, minimally invasive, and comfortable removal of small benign lesions, such as mucoceles. Families will appreciate the gentle and efficient approach this technology provides.
